Buildings In Central Jakarta Are Urged To Install The Red And White Flag Ahead Of The Celebration Of The 80th Anniversary Of Indonesian Independence

The Central Jakarta City Government appealed to all building and residential managers in the area to put up the Red and White flag ahead of the celebration of the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia and asked the public to reflect on the independence process again.

"To gain independence, many national figures are fighting and sacrificing, from energy to material," said Mayor Arifin in Jakarta, Friday, August 1, 2025.

For this reason, Arifin asked the managers of high-rise buildings and environmental administrators to put up flags and knick-knacks for independence day.

Arifin also responded to the large number of flag installations with pictures of skulls and crossed bones which are the pirate flags of the manga "One Piece".

Arifin asked the entire community to reflect on the independence process captured by state fighters that everyone sacrifices so that independence can be achieved.

Therefore, said Arifin, it is appropriate as an Indonesian citizen to be able to fill the independence day by putting up the Red and White flag.

"We show the spirit of nationalism, in the past the fighters risked their lives and property in order to fly the Red and White flag. This must be remembered," he said.

Previously, the Directorate General of Politics and General Administration (Polpum) of the Ministry of Home Affairs responded to the question of raising the pirate flag from the manga "One Piece" ahead of the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

Director General of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Bahtiar Baharuddin on the sidelines of distributing 10 million Red and White flags in Denpasar, Bali, Friday, reminded that leading the country is not easy.

He said it was not easy to lead a country in an abnormal world situation globally and regionally, the challenges were enormous.

Bahtiar Baharuddin does not want this condition to be responded to further and invites him to focus on solving challenges by supporting the government that works is not easy.

Many circulated on social media raising the flag of Jolly Roger, a black flag with a skull with a straw hat in the story of "One Piece".

The symbol of Jolly Roger in the manga became a symbol of resistance to the rulers, a symbol of freedom, unity and solidarity of pirates so that social media users linked the raising of this flag as a form of resistance to government performance.
