JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a good first phone call with Poland's elected president Karol Nawrocki, who will take office next week.

"We believe that Poland will continue to be our trusted partner and ally," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.

Zelenskyy stressed the importance of sustainable military, political and humanitarian support for Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion.

The Ukrainian president said the two leaders had agreed to make an official visit to their respective countries.

Although Nawrocki supports Ukraine's fight against Russia, he said he was against Ukraine's access to NATO and the European Union.

He also raised issues related to memory of past historical issues between Poland and Ukraine.

"Karol Nawrocki stressed that he is the voice of the nation demanding changes in Ukraine's approach to historical issues that are important and have so far not been resolved. This must be changed," wrote Rafal Leskiewicz, spokeswoman for Nawrocki.

He said this would be a "further discussion" between the two leaders.
