The Kremlin said on Wednesday it was continuing to monitor US President Donald Trump's statement regarding sanctions against Moscow, while Russia had gained immunity against the measure thanks to a long experience.

"We have lived under a large number of sanctions for a long time, our economy is operating under large numbers of restrictions," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"Therefore, of course, we have developed certain immunity in this regard, and we continue to pay attention to all statements coming from President Trump, from other international representatives on this matter," he continued.

Earlier, President Trump said on Tuesday the United States would begin charging tariffs and other measures against Russia in 10 days, if Moscow showed no progress in ending the war that had lasted more than three years in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, called the threat of new sanctions a "routine" and said it was strange that the US and West had not understood that the implementation of these actions was unsuccessful and would only harm the Western economy.

"We see that the West cannot simply escape from the issue of sanctions. It seems that they are constantly trapped in uncertain situations," Zakharova said at a press conference in Moscow.

"As a result, there is no other choice left - they have run out of energy. We responded and took steps to ward off all of this or even take advantage of it for our own benefit," he said.
