The joint team consisting of police and TNI on Wednesday helped evacuate a ship carrying aid that ran aground after crashing into a coral in the waters of Sarok Island, Sumenep Regency, East Java Province.
"It happened this morning and until tonight the evacuation process by police personnel from the Raas Police together with the TNI from the local Koramil is still ongoing," said Sumenep Police Chief AKBP Rivanda as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 31.
"I have also instructed members of the Raas Police to continue to monitor and oversee the entire evacuation process to completion," said Rivanda.
The Sapudi Indah Sea Motorboat (KLM) with hull number 949/LC had an accident while carrying about 27 tons of aid from Bulog, Sumenep Regency.
The ship, which departed from Gersik Putih Harbor on Wednesday (30/7) at around 01.00 WIB in the morning, reportedly hit the reef at around 07.00 WIB, when it was about to enter the waters of Raas Island, and ran aground in the north of Sarok Island.
The incident was immediately reported to the Harbormaster, who forwarded the report to the Raas Police.
Sector Police and Raas Military Rayon Command then went to the scene and helped evacuate the ship's cargo, including transferring rice from the unlucky ship to a resident's boat to Ketupat Harbor.
Rice transported using KLM Sapudi Indah is planned to be distributed to four villages in Raas District, namely Tonduk, Kropoh, Poteran, and Ketupat villages.
