The Regent of Lahat, South Sumatra, Bursah Zarnubi, confirmed that his party did not provide legal assistance to the two suspects in the Hand Catch Operation (OTT) case at the Pagar Gunung District Office.

Zarnubi's body during an interview in Palembang, Monday, July 28, quoted by Antara, said that his party would not provide legal assistance to the suspects.

"This is not the government's business. However, this is a personal matter of the village heads," he said.

However, he advised the families of the suspects to seek legal assistance. Given, there are many legal terms that the suspects may not understand.

"I suggest the family to seek legal assistance, both in the initial examination and later during the trial. At least it can ease the judicial decision later," he explained.

In addition, Burzah said that he would gather all OPDs, sub-district heads, village heads to conduct evaluations so that similar things do not happen again.

"I also urge OPDs, sub-district heads, and village heads not to collect money like yesterday's case," he said.

Previously, the South Sumatra Province High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) named two suspects in a capture operation (OTT) at the Pagar Gunung District Office, Lahat Regency.

In the OTT there are 22 people who are village heads, sub-district heads, and staff of the Pagar Gunung sub-district office, Lahat.

Of these, his party named two suspects, namely N Head of the All-Indonesian Village Government Association Forum (APDESI) Pagar Gunung who is also the Head of Padang Pagun, and Treasurer of APDESI Pagar Gunung JS who serves as Head of Muara Dua Village.

Both were proven to have blackmailed the village head by asking for some money to be deposited with the local Law Enforcement Apparatus (APH).

From this case, the two suspects were proven to have asked for a sum of money which was referred to as due money. Each village head is required to give money worth Rp. 7 million per year.
