JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Charles Honoris, highlighted the problems that continue to occur in the Free Nutrition Food (MBG) program, even though it has been running for more than half a year.
In the 6th month of the implementation of the MBG this July alone, 220 students in Kupang, NTT, became victims of poisoning after eating the MBG menu so they had to be rushed to the hospital. Then in Magelang, Central Java, students also foundbags on the side of the MBG menu they received.
Charles assessed that the recurring problems in the implementation of the MBG so far have shown similar severe negligence, both from service providers, as well as from the government's supervisory side.
"It's like poisoning after poisoning which has taken many victims, it doesn't give you any significant lessons to continue to improve yourself," Charles told reporters, Monday, July 28.
"The victim of MBG poisoning is not a statistically 'error' that can be neglected to claim success in general. This is not a matter of numbers, but a matter of physical health for the nation's next children," he continued.
Therefore, said Charles, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) as the executor of the MBG program must not turn a blind eye.
"BGN must immediately revoke the permit for the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) which has proven negligent so as to endanger the safety of our children. Don't wait for more victims to fall!" said Charles.
With a very large budget allocation, according to Charles, BGN should also not be too busy chasing the number of MBG beneficiaries.
"It should be remembered that the most important thing is the quality of the benefits of BMG itself. Why reach as much as possible, if what is given is not suitable for consumption, even dangerous?" said the PDI-P politician.

Charles then reminded the results of the meeting between Commission IX of the DPR, BGN, and BPOM some time ago, in which it was agreed that BPOM should be actively involved in monitoring the provision of MBG in all regions.
"However, from the latest events, it seems that this agreement has not been implemented. Keep in mind, the conclusion of the meeting in the commissions in the DPR is an official document whose decision is binding," he concluded.
