JAKARTA - United Nations (UN) aid officials welcomed Israel for opening a blockade of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
Israel announced a safe land route for humanitarian aid entering Gaza starting Sunday 27 July.
"We welcome the announcement of the humanitarian break in Gaza to allow our help to come in," said UN emergency aid coordinator Tom Fletcher on his X account today, quoted by AFP.
He said the United Nations would seek to reach as many Palestinians as possible in Gaza who are maltrunisi and starving.
"Relations to our team on the pitch that will do everything we can to reach as many people who are starving in this time span," he continued.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) led by Fletcher said it would place a team in Gaza after permission from Israel to blockade Gaza's entry route was issued.
Previously, on Friday, July 25, OCHA emphasized that conditions in Gaza were very bad.
"The crisis of hunger is getting deeper," he said.
Fletcher reminded the hunger and malnutrition experienced by Gazans at high risk of causing other diseases. He added that the worst consequences would lead to death.
"A little supply that goes into the Gaza Strip is not enough to meet enormous needs," he continued.
