Pangkalpinang Narcotics Prison Doubles Overcapas

JAKARTA - The number of inmates (WBP) in the Class IIA Pangkalpinang Narcotics Prison has reached 1,008 people or has exceeded the capacity twice.

"Residents of prisons have doubled their capacity, because of the many cases of drug trafficking in this area," said Head of the Class IIA Narcotics Prison, Pangkalpinang City, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Maman, quoting Antara.

He said that currently the number of inmates at the Class IIA Narcotics Prison in Pangkalpinang reached 1,008 people or had overcapacity twice compared to the prison capacity of only 450 people.

"This is the reality, but we continue to do our best to provide guidance to WBP, so that after they are released, they will not repeat this drug crime," he said.

He stated that the WBP involved in narcotics cases in the Province of the Babylon Islands had exceeded half of the total criminal cases in this area.

"This Narcotics Prison is a safe house, where we are introspective and devoted to fostering WBP who are involved in this narcotics crime case," he said.

Head of the Regional Office of the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Office, Herman Sawiran, said that currently the number of inmates in prisons and detention centers throughout the Bangka Belitung Islands reached 2,830 people, or exceeding the capacity of 160 percent compared to the capacity of prisons and detention centers.

"Currently, the number of prison and detention center occupancy has exceeded the capacity, because the capacity of our prisons and detention centers is small in size," he said.
