JAKARTA - One of the longest foreign prisoners detained in France, Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, 74, has been released from prison. This pro-Palestinian Lebanese militant was deported today.
Abdallah was detained for 40 years in France for the murder of two diplomats.
According to AFP monitoring at the location, the deportation process was carried out at around 03.40 (01.40 GMT) on Friday, July 25, French time.
The convoy convoy consisting of six vehicles left Lannemezan prison with lights on. A few hours later, Abdallah was placed on the plane to Lebanon.
While landing in Beirut, Lebanon, Abdallah was greeted by family members in the airport VIP waiting room.
Dozens of supporters, some of whom raised the Palestinian flag or the Lebanese Communist Party, gathered near the airport arrivals hall to give Abdallah a hero welcome.

Abdallah was detained in 1984 and sentenced to life in 1987 to his involvement in the assassination of the United States (US) military attach, Charles Robert Ray and Israeli diplomat Yacov Barsimantov in Paris.
The Paris Court of Appeals ordered its effective release on July 25, on condition that Abdallah leaves French territory and never returns.
Although he has been eligible to be released since 1999, the request was rejected earlier as US civil parties in this case consistently oppose Abdallah to be released from prison.
As is known, inmates serving a life sentence in France are usually released after less than 30 years in prison.
