JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka revealed that President Prabowo Subianto targets Indonesia to immediately produce Biodiesel 50 (B50), namely mixed fuel consisting of 50 percent palm oil and 50 percent fossil diesel.

Gibran said that the target is part of a national program to accelerate the energy transition from fossil energy to green energy that is more environmentally friendly.

"Now we have B35, B40, in the future the President is targeting B50. Later there will also be bioavtur, bioethenol, biodiesel, and many more. Our bioenergy potential is huge, reaching 57 GigaWatts. For palm oil and seaweed, we are among the largest in the world," said Gibran while speaking at the Green Impact Festival in Jakarta, Antara, last Thursday.

On that occasion, Gibran explained various government programs related to accelerating the energy transition, ranging from supporting electric vehicles to developing waste power plants (PLTSa) in a number of cities.

He said that currently a Waste Management Acceleration Task Force has been formed. The government is also targeting the construction of PLTSa in 12 cities, with two pilot cities namely Surabaya and Solo, which have built these facilities first.

"Those in Surabaya have a capacity of 12 MegaWatts, in Solo 8 MegaWatt. It has been completed since I was a mayor. God willing, the other 12 cities can imitate these two cities," said Gibran.

The Vice President emphasized that the government's commitment to the energy transition is based on awareness of a climate crisis that is increasingly real and knows no national boundaries.

"I'm sure my friends here already know that many big countries are currently affected by climate change due to global warming," he said in front of the participants, the majority of whom were young people.

According to him, the impact of climate change such as extreme drought, floods, sea level rise, and the threat of crop failure have become a real challenge for Indonesia and the world.

"The challenge is in sight and we must act immediately," said Gibran.
