JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will revitalize the Ragunan Wildlife Park (TMR) in South Jakarta. The revitalization process is currently still in the stage of preparing detailed engineering design (DED) as the basis for planning.
Head of the DKI Jakarta City Parks and Forest Service (Distamhut), Fajar Sauri, said that DED is an important basis so that the development of TMR in the future can be carried out in a comprehensive, integrated and sustainable manner, without ignoring the principles of animal conservation and welfare.
"This stage is important as a basis for comprehensive planning, so that future development can be carried out in an integrated, sustainable manner, and still prioritizes the principles of conservation and animal welfare," Fajar told reporters in Jakarta, Friday, July 25.
He explained that after the DED is completed, the amount of the revitalization budget will be known. Therefore, this year the DKI Provincial Government has not allocated a budget for the physical development of the project.
In general, Fajar explained that Ragunan's revitalization would carry the concept of animal zoning-based structuring. Each area will be adjusted to the classification of its habitat, animal type, and living space needs.
"With this arrangement, animal management is expected to be more optimal and the delivery of education to visitors becomes more targeted," he said.
The development concept will also pay attention to visitors' accessibility, the efficiency of animal and nurse movements, and the integration of information technology in regional management.
Previously, on Thursday (17/7/2025), Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno held a limited meeting to discuss the development of the Ragunan Wildlife Park. In the meeting, Rano assessed that Ragunan as a favorite tourist destination for Jakarta residents needs to be improved in quality.
One of the proposals that emerged was the construction of a cable car facility to facilitate the mobility of visitors from one zone to another.
"It can be made a kind of cable car, so that it can become a facility. He can turn around, right. So that people who want to go to the cage don't go far," said Rano.
Rano also highlighted the congestion that often occurs at the entrance of Ragunan, especially on weekends. He considered that there needed to be an evaluative step to reduce the density of traffic around the tourist area.
