JAKARTA - Iran warned US destroyers to change course after approaching waters monitored by the Islamic Republic of Iran. The US ship was turning around, Iranian state media reported.

The US Navy and US Central Command, which oversee US troops in the Middle East, have yet to comment directly on the report.

The reported incident follows a US attack last month on Iran's nuclear facility which Washington says is part of a nuclear weapons development program.

Tehran is adamant that its nuclear program is purely for civilian purposes.

"The US destroyer 'Fitzgerald' is trying to approach the waters under Iran's supervision in provocative steps," Iranian state TV reported.

It was reported that the Navy helicopters immediately approached the destroyer and issued a stern warning to leave the area.

The US destroyer threatened Iranian helicopters, but moved out of the area after a constant warning was given.

Iranian state media identified the ship in question as "DDGrising".

The Iranian Army has contacted the ship, confirmed the helicopter was under its protection, and asked the ship to change its direction to the south.
