JAKARTA - Russian negotiators flew to Turkey for the first peace negotiations with Ukraine in more than seven weeks.

As reported by Reuters on Wednesday, July 23, data from tracking site Flightradar24 shows the plane the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, to fly to previous negotiations in Istanbul, has taken off from Moscow.

The two warring parties had held two rounds of previous negotiations in Istanbul, May 16 and June 2, resulting in the exchange of thousands of prisoners of war and the bodies of the soldiers who died.

However, they have yet to reach a breakthrough towards a ceasefire or settlement to end the war that has lasted nearly three and a half years.

US President Donald Trump last week threatened to impose new and severe sanctions on Russia and countries that buy its exports unless a peace agreement is reached within 50 days.

However, three sources close to the Kremlin told Reuters Putin, who was not affected by Trump's ultimatum, would continue to fight in Ukraine to the West meeting his terms of peace, and that his territorial demands could expand as Russian troops progress.
