Forest And Land Fire Cases Decrease, Police Use Advanced Technology To Monitor Perpetrators

JAKARTA - The National Police claims that the number of cases of forest and land fires (karhutla) has decreased drastically by 81 percent. The decrease in the number of cases occurred in the period 2019 to 2020.

This statement was conveyed by the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono when signing a joint decision in the framework of law enforcement with the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

"The point is that in the forest and land fire activities between 2019 and 2020 there was an 81 percent decrease in terms of hotspots and the area of land burned," Argo told reporters, Thursday, May 6.

In the future, Argo continued, the prevention of forest and land fires cases will be carried out using advanced technology. One of them is installing CCTV cameras at various points.

"For example, we install CCTV with a radius, zoom distance, we can see forest burners who were not caught red-handed. We can see who the culprit is there so we can zoom, can rotate 360 degrees. There are several points that we communicate with Telkom, from other agencies. , "said Argo.

In addition, an integrated command post and patrol will be built. Then, prevention is also carried out by providing education to the public.

"The technology we use is to make it easier because we see that the forest area is very large, so we have to use the technology we have. We will implement it so that later to find out the hotspots using technology," said Argo.

"So later we can know the technology installed and the hotspots can know what distance. Then there are reservoirs and canals made by the ministry, how far is the water flow," continued Argo.

Meanwhile, in the process of enforcing the law on forest and land fires cases, the Police will coordinate with the Attorney General's Office. So, all cases will be handled properly.

"We coordinate with the prosecutor's office. Regarding expert witnesses, we will communicate other instructions so that the case files do not go back and forth. So later, according to the Presidential Instruction (Presidential Instruction) we will carry out prevention and law enforcement activities in an integrated manner," said Argo.
