PSI Was Built To Commodate Jokowi's Interest, The Elect Of Kaesang Was Not A Surprise

JAKARTA Executive Director of the Indonesia Political Review (IPR), Iwan Setiawan, assessed that the re-elect of Kaesang Pangarep to become PSI General Chair is not surprising, including if Jokowi is also appointed as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

"I have said it many times before, in the end at the PSI Kaesang Congress it will be re-determined as chairman, and maybe Jokowi will be the chairman of the Board of Trustees or the like," he said, Sunday, July 20, 2025.

He stated that this was very natural considering that PSI was built to accommodate Jokowi's political interests and his family. Therefore, PSI's slogan as Jokowi's party is not only a slogan, but PSI belongs to Jokowi and his family.

"Meanwhile, to gain public sympathy, political gimmicks were issued such as the elephant logo with the words Super Tbk Party, before the congress was held," he added.

According to Iwan, after ten years in power, Jokowi must have a political party to continue to exist and have power in the political arena of Indonesia. By having political parties, plus the strengths and networks that have been built so far, Jokowi is said to still have a place in the world of national politics.

"For me, the interesting thing after the PSI Congress is not what Jokowi is positioned as, but who are the political figures who will be announced to enter and join PSI," he said.

As is known, Kaesang Pangarep again serves as General Chair (Ketum) of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) and will serve until 2030. This was announced at the PSI Congress at the Graha Saba Buana Building, Solo, Saturday 19 July 2025.

The youngest son of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jokowi, managed to outperform the votes from two other presidential candidates, namely Ronald A Sinaga or Bro Ron and Agus Mulyono Herlambang. In the results of the e-voting announced at the PSI Congress, Kaesang won 65.28 percent. Second place is Bro Ron with 22.23 percent of the votes, and Agus who got 12.49 percent.
