Governor Pramono Attends The UN Forum, Jakarta Wants To Enter 50 Global Cities

JAKARTA - The Governor of DKI Jakarta attended the High-Level Political Forum: Local and Regional Governments Forum which was held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, Wednesday, July 16 local time.

In the UN's high-level political forum, Pramono revealed that Jakarta has ambitions to become one of 50 global cities. In the 2024 Global City Index, Jakarta still ranks 74th in global cities.

"This requires fundamental changes in terms of city attraction, provision of infrastructure, bureaucratic transformation, political support, transparent public communication, and quality of human resources," Pramono said, quoted on Thursday, July 17.

In achieving this, Jakarta implements sustainable development goals (SDGs) into local policies and programs.

"Our ongoing development efforts have formed Jakarta into a global city that is in line with our agenda in 2030," said Pramono.

On that occasion, Pramono revealed a number of sustainable development steps in various fields, including health, city security for women, empowered communities, and collaboration.

"In 2024, Jakarta will reach its lowest Gender Inequality Index nationally, with several efforts including women's special buses, anti-harassment campaigns on Transjakarta buses, extension of park operating hours strengthened by lighting and better supervision," he explained.

Before ending the conversation, Pramono said that the progress of Jakarta as a global city must be accompanied by stronger cross-sectoral collaboration.

"Let's position Jakarta as the pioneer of strong, inclusive, and globally integrated national development. Jakarta must be a place for everyone to have space and no one to be left behind," he added.
