JAKARTA - The Lampung Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center (Karantina) Service Unit (Satpel) confiscated 120 wild birds without documents at Bakauheni Port, South Lampung Regency.
"The joint Lampung Quarantine Officer and related parties found 120 wild birds without official documents, when the bus inspection was under routine supervision at Bakauheni Port," said Lampung Quarantine Head Donni Muksydayan in his statement, Wednesday, July 16, quoted by Antara.
He said the birds were found by joint officers in three white plastic baskets in the trunk of a bus that will cross to Java Island.
"Officers immediately secured hundreds of birds because they were not equipped with official quarantine documents, including veterinary certificates from authorized agencies from their area of origin. This violates Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine," he said.
Apart from not being equipped with a required document, he continued, the owner of the goods did not report it to the quarantine officer. The identification results contained 74 cibblek birds and fifty honey birds.
"All birds come from Mesuji Regency and are planned to be sent to Tangerang," he said.

Donni said that the mode of sending wild animals without documents is not the first time this has happened, because this pattern of violations continues to repeat itself and is a serious concern of the Indonesian Quarantine Center (Barantin).
"The delivery of animals without official documents not only violates the law, but also endangers animal health and threatens biodiversity. Therefore, Barantin continues to carry out surveillance as a form of biological defense," he said.
He added that handling cases of illegal wildlife shipments requires cross-agency collaboration.
"We need cooperation and collaboration with security forces, local governments, conservation institutions, and the community to strengthen supervision and prevention," he said.
