JAKARTA - Iran said it would hold talks with its key partners in Asia, Russia and China, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organizations Summit (SCO) on Tuesday, as Tehran's efforts to provide support following the 12-day air war with Israel last month.

"We will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese foreign ministers, which is of course important in the current situation, as well as with the Russian foreign minister," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an Eurasian security and political group consisting of 10 countries, whose members include China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and Iran. Tianjin in northern China hosted the 25th SCO Foreign Minister meeting.

In June, Israel and the United States launched attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities which they refer to as part of a nuclear program directed at weaponry. Tehran denies having such a plan.

Since reimposing American sanctions against Iran during the first term of US President Donald Trump, Tehran has strengthened relations with Moscow through a 20-year strategic pact and Beijing, which purchases up to 90% of Iranian oil exports.

"SCO is gradually opening its place in the global arena, meaning it gradually goes beyond the regional arena, and has many different issues on its agenda, including in the economic, political and security fields," wrote AragCHI via the Telegram messaging application.
