JAKARTA - Sudanese activist groups said on Monday the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which are a paramilitary group, had killed nearly 300 people in an attack in North Kordofan State which began on Saturday.

RSF has been battling Sudanese troops in the region, one of the main lines of civil war that has been raging since April 2023. The army has taken control of the country's central and eastern regions strongly, while the RSF seeks to consolidate its control of the western region, including North Kordofan.

Human rights group Emergency Lawyers said RSF attacked several villages on Saturday around the city of Bara, which is controlled by paramilitary.

In one village, Shag Alnom, more than 200 people were killed in arson or gunfire. Attacks in other villages killed 38 civilians, they said, while dozens more were missing.

The next day, according to the group, RSF attacked Hilat Hamid village and killed 46 people, including pregnant women and children.

More than 3,400 people were forced to flee due to the conflict in Sudan, according to the United Nations.

"It has been proven that these targeted villages are completely empty of military targets, which clarify the criminal nature of these crimes committed by completely ignoring international humanitarian law," the group said, calling the responsibility to be in the leadership of the RSF.

The United States and human rights groups have accused RSF of committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

The army has carried out a series of brutal lootings in areas it has controlled across the country. The RSF leadership said it would try those who were proven responsible for the action.

Sudan's civil war that broke out in 2023 has created the world's largest humanitarian crisis, causing more than half of the population to hunger and spreading disease including pagoda across the country.

On the other hand, the reduction in the global aid budget has extended the humanitarian response of people in need.
