JAKARTA - The United Nations (UNICEF) Children's Fund announced on Sunday thousands of children in the Gaza Strip were diagnosed with malnutrition during June, as Israel's devastating war and a 18-year blockade continued to limit access to essential food and services.
In an upload published on X, UNICEF revealed: "More than 5,800 children were diagnosed with malnutrition in Gaza in June, including more than 1,000 children with severe acute malnutrition, an increase for four consecutive months," quoted from WAFA July 14.
In a statement, UNICEF called this situation a "child survival emergency," adding "assistance must be distributed quickly and on a large scale."
As previously reported, the United Nations Agency for Assistance and Work for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) warned of a sharp increase in cases of malnutrition in Gaza, especially among children and vulnerable groups, amid a severe shortage of essential medical supplies.
In a statement published on Sunday on its official website, the agency said its clinics in Gaza had recorded a significant spike in cases of malnutrition since the start of Israel's strict blockade in March.
UNRWA stressed that restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, including food and medicines, exacerbated the health condition and life of civilians who are already concerning the trapped enclave.

The agency further called on the international community to immediately ensure the delivery of life-saving supplies, acting decisively to end the deepening humanitarian crisis.
UNRWA warned that the ongoing collapse of healthcare service infrastructure, coupled with soaring levels of poverty and food insecurity, prompted residents - especially children and women - to rapidly deteriorating humanitarian emergencies.
