Former President Urges Russia To Focus On Reaching War Goals In Ukraine Instead Of Trump's Retoriality

JAKARTA - Russia should focus on achieving its goals, including those related to war in Ukraine instead of paying attention to US President Donald Trump's unstable rhetoric, Russia's Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said.

"America is once again balancing its favorite political choices," he wrote on Telegram, referring to President Trump's statement about Ukraine and his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"How are we going to deal with it?" continued Medvedev.

"The way we have done it. The way our army does it. The way our supreme commander does it. That means not dealing with it in any way," Medvedev explained.

"We need to continue to achieve the objectives of special military operations," he said, adding: "Reclaim our land and work for victory."

Commenting on his efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, President Trump has made conflicting statements over the past few months, sometimes on the same day.

At one time he praised his conversation with President Putin, at the next time he said he was disappointed. US leaders used the same approach in terms of assessing Washington's support for Ukraine.

Last week, President Trump said his phone call to President Putin had not made any progress in efforts to end the war in Ukriana. Earlier, President Trump believed President Putin was trying to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

"I'm not making any progress with him at all," President Trump told reporters in a brief comment at an airbase outside Washington.

In turn, the Kremlin said it was watching all President Trump's statements after a phone call with President Putin.

Peskov said President Putin had told President Trump Russia would prefer to achieve its goals in Ukraine through political and diplomatic means, but meanwhile it would continue what he called a "special military operation".
