JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani revealed that the government has proposed ambassador candidates for 24 friendly countries, including the United States and the United Nations (UN).
According to the mechanism, Puan said, the government's proposal would be followed up by Commission I of the DPR to hold a fit and proper test for the ambassador candidate.
This was conveyed by Puan regarding a letter sent by President Prabowo Subianto to the DPR regarding the request for consideration of a candidate for ambassador to a friendly country which had just been read out in a plenary meeting of the DPR.
"In accordance with the mechanism in the DPR and it will be discussed later in Commission I. Earlier in the plenary meeting, I conveyed that the names are confidential. Then the discussion is confidential because this is the first and concerns legality and so on," said Puan, Thursday, July 3.
"However, I can convey the proposed state submitted by the government that there are 24 countries," he continued.
Because it is confidential, Puan emphasized that the name of the ambassador candidate for now cannot be disclosed to the public.
"So we will wait for the results of the fit and proper carried out by Commission I. Starting today Commission I will carry out a mechanism in Commission I to carry out a fit and proper property in Commission I," he explained.
The mechanism, among others, is that the Ambassador candidates will carry out a fit and proper test in the DPR RI and be elected based on the approval of Commission I of the DPR.
