JAKARTA - Commissioner General of the United Nations Aid and Work Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini, said Tuesday dozens of humanitarian organizations had called for an end to the so-called "Gaza Humanitarian Society" (GHF), run by the United States and Israel, saying the foundation "did not provide anything except hunger and gunfire" for civilians in the Gaza Strip.
"Since this scheme began, at least 500 starving people have reportedly died and nearly 4,000 people have been injured while struggling desperately to get food," he tweeted in an X post, quoted from WAFA July 2.
"Under this new eclipse, Gaza has changed from 400 aid distribution points to just four militarized distribution sites," he continued.
According to Lazzarini, more than 130 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have signed a joint call demanding the restoration of the UN-led integrated humanitarian response in Gaza.
The call calls for coordination and delivery of aid to be returned to international humanitarian legal standards, and to ensure UNRWA plays a major role.
"Today, more than 130 NGOs have called for the restoration of coordination and integrated distribution led by the United Nations based on international humanitarian law, including UNRWA," he said.
