A Sumatran tiger cub (Panthera tigris sumatrae) male died due to malanutrition and dehydration in Bukittinggi Wildlife and Culture Park (TMSBK), West Sumatra (West Sumatra).
"On June 1 at 09.00 am, based on the results of the examination, this Sumatran tiger cub was declared dead by the medical team," said Head of the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of West Sumatra Province Hartono as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 2.
Based on the results of necropsy, it is known that the cause of death of this tiger cub is malanutrition and dehydration. The results were strengthened through CCTV monitoring which showed the tiger mother had not breastfeededed her cubs for several days.
"So, the dead tiger cub at TMSBK Bukittinggi is due to malanutrition and dehydration," said Hartono.
The tiger cub was born on June 24, 2025 at 03.00 am. Since the beginning the tiger cub was in the same cage as its mother. Officers routinely continue to monitor developments through surveillance cameras or CCTV.
"Officers monitor developments and supervision through the monitor screen, because at that time the mother could not be approached," he said.
Then on June 29, the results of monitoring by officers through the monitor screen found that the mother was stressed and the child was always transferred by being bitten.
