JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump will discuss the situation in Gaza and Iran when he meets Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday next week. Trump hopes to reach a ceasefire in Gaza soon.

A senior Israeli official, Ron Dermer, has been in Washington this week holding talks ahead of the meeting.

Trump and Netanyahu teamed up on military operations against Iran's nuclear site in June culminating in the American B-2 bomb attack.

Trump said the attack "eliminated" Tehran's nuclear capabilities, although there was still debate over the extent of the damage to Iran's nuclear program.

Trump hopes a ceasefire agreement for the hostages can be reached next week between Israel and Iran-backed Hamas militants in Gaza.

"We hope that will happen and we look forward to it next week," he told reporters as he left the White House for a day's trip to Florida.

"We want to free the hostages," he continued.

Hamas said it was willing to release the remaining hostages, paving a new path in Gaza based on any agreement to end the war.

While Israel says the war can only end if Hamas is stripped and dissolved. Hamas refused to lay down his gun.

The war in Gaza was triggered when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and holding 251 people hostage, according to Israeli tallies.

Gaza's Ministry of Health said Israel's post-7 October military offensive had killed more than 56,000 Palestinians.

The attack also led to a hunger crisis, refuge in the country of all Gazans and sparked allegations of genocide in the International Court and war crimes at the International Criminal Court.

But Israel denies the allegations.
