DPR Waits For The Government To Send A Letter Regarding The Position Of An Empty Ambassador

JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani stated that the DPR was waiting for a letter from President Prabowo Subianto (Surpres) regarding the names of candidates for the Indonesian ambassador (dubes) at a number of vacant posts. Puan said that after the Surpres was received, the DPR would immediately discuss the names of the ambassadors proposed by the government.

Regarding the names of the ambassadors, of course the DPR is waiting for a letter from the government. Who are the names, who are proposed," said Puan Maharani, Tuesday, July 1.

Puan hopes that whoever the candidate for ambassador Prabowo chooses is someone who understands the current geopolitical and global situation.

"We hope that the proposed names should be people who really know about the geopolitical situation, the global situation," he said.

According to Puan, ambassador candidates also need to consider diplomatic capabilities and understanding of the dynamic world conditions.

He also emphasized the importance of figures who can be accepted by placement countries and are able to establish good communication with various parties in their area of duty.

"(Prospective ambassadors) can be accepted by the countries that they are proposed to be ambassadors in these countries, and can communicate and coordinate with the parties in the country," said Puan.

Commission I of the DPR revealed that there are 12 Indonesian Embassys in empty friendly countries without ambassadors. Several strategic positions that have not been filled include ambassadors for the United States, Germany (Berlin) to the Indonesian Permanent Representative for the United Nations (PPB) in New York and Geneva.

In a meeting with Commission I of the DPR, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono confirmed that within the next one to two days, a letter regarding the proposed name of the ambassador candidate for a friendly country had reached the DPR. One of the ambassadors of an empty strategic country, namely the Indonesian Embassy to the United States.

"I think this is also our fault so that this process does not take place quickly and smoothly. But what is certain is that for the several posts mentioned, I hope that in one or two days there has been a letter to the DPR to get these important positions to be filled immediately," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, Monday, June 30.
