Broken Jatinegara Rel Wall, Perpetrators Threatened With Crime: Allegedly Access To Illegal Prostitution

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 1 Jakarta stated that the action of individuals who broke into the railroad barrier wall in the Jatinegara Station area, East Jakarta, was a serious violation of the law and could be subject to criminal penalties.

KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Ixfan Hendriwintoko emphasized that the fence and guardrail are an important part of the train travel security system.

"The destruction of the fence or guardrail on the Jatinegara route of Cipinang is a criminal offense, in accordance with Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways," said Ixfan when confirmed, quoted from Antara, Sunday, June 29.

The wall that was built aims to prevent illegal spread and protect the public from the dangers of active rails. However, in practice, a number of holes were found that were deliberately broken down to be used as illegal access.

"Including allegations of illegal spread to prostitution in the vicinity of the rail line," said Ixfan.

Based on observations in the field, several large holes have been closed by KAI using iron plates. However, small holes are still found and are thought to continue to be broken down by unscrupulous people.

A number of residents around Jatinegara Station also complained about suspicious activities around the train line. Ahmad (39), a local trader, said that prostitution often occurs before the walls are completely closed.

"Now it's a bit better because the walls are closed and officers often patrol. But there are still climbers or holes again," said Ahmad some time ago.

To anticipate this, PT KAI installed a prohibited sign around vulnerable areas, as well as increased supervision through routine patrols, especially at night until early morning.

Ixfan menegaskan bahwa siapa pun yang merusak fasilitas perkeretaapian akan diproses hukum karena tindakan itu berpotensi membahayakan keselamatan perjalanan kereta api dan masyarakat sekitar.

"Kami mengajak masyarakat untuk bersama menjaga fasilitas perkeretaapian demi keselamatan bersama," pungkasnya.

Ixfan emphasized that anyone who damages railway facilities will be prosecuted because this action has the potential to endanger the safety of train travel and the surrounding community.

"We invite the public to jointly maintain railway facilities for the sake of mutual safety," he concluded.
