Spanish Foreign Minister Calls For Suspension Of European-Israel Union Agreement

JAKARTA - Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares on Monday called for an immediate suspension of the European Union-Israel Association Agreement and banned arms sale to Israel, citing human rights abuses.

"This is the right time to act, if the Association Agreement is based on human rights, then the normal thing to suspend it is immediately today, and that we are moving forward," Albares said during a media meeting before a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers (EU) in Luxembourg. reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Monday, June 23.

On this basis, Albares requested a suspension of the agreement and carried out an embargo on arms sales to Israel.

In addition, the Spanish Foreign Minister also called for sanctions against those who wish to thwart the realization of a two-state solution.

Albares stressed the need for Europe to always uphold its basic principles.

"So, today is the day to acknowledge what we have known since months ago, that there have been human rights abuses, especially today, on this day of action. Otherwise, the EU will fail," he said.
