China Considers US Attack On Iran Damaged Washington's Credibility

JAKARTA - China said the US attack on Iran's nuclear facilities undermined Washington's credibility. Beijing is concerned that the situation will get out of control.

The UN Security Council met on Sunday, June 22 to discuss the US attacks on Iran's nuclear sites. Russia, China, and Pakistan proposed that the 15-member body adopt a resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East.

Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Fu Cong said the parties should exercise "power drive, avoid exacerminating conflict, and add fuel to the fire," the CCTV broadcaster said.

Fu said the parties, especially Israel, must immediately stop attacks to prevent the situation from escalating and avoid the spread of war.

"Iran is injured but the credibility of the United States is also damaged both as a country and as a participant in any international negotiations," said Fu.

Separately, the Chinese embassy in Iran said on Sunday evening that most Chinese nationals in Iran had been safely evacuated, and those remaining were not in high-risk areas.

President Donald Trump has previously "missed" Tehran's main nuclear site, joining Israel in the largest Western military action against the Islamic Republic since the 1979 revolution.
