JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono wants member countries of the United Islamic Cooperation Organization (OKI) to realize multilateral reforms, as well as intensify collaboration among members.
This was conveyed by Foreign Minister Sugiono at the 51st OKI Ministerial Conference (KTM) which was held in Istanbul, Turkey on June 21.
In a statement, Foreign Minister Sugiono said this meeting was held as global geopolitical landscape temperatures escalated, highlighting continued violence and actions against Israel's international law that were not punished.
It refers to the increasing brutal Israeli aggression in Palestine, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, expanding illegal settlements in the West Bank, and attacks on Iran.
"The continuing cruelty in Palestine reflects the failure of a multilateral system in ensuring justice. As countries in the southern hemisphere, the OIC must continuously advocate a fairer and more inclusive world order," Foreign Minister Sugiono said, citing a statement in the KTM, Sunday, June 22.
"And we must also unite to realize multilateral reforms," he said.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Sugiono said the OIC must intensify economic and development collaboration.
Foreign Minister Sugiono said, with the OIC covering more than 25 percent of the world's population, the organization only contributed less than 10 percent of global domestic product (GDP).
"Economic and development programs must be improved. Especially through South-South-South cooperation and triangles, in trade, education, science and innovation and food security," explained Foreign Minister Sugiono.
"Some of us represent countries with enormous natural resources and minerals needed for the future, some of us have advanced technology and expertise, some of us have strong financial capital."
"And all of us, when we unite all of this We will become a collective force that will strengthen our strategic position as Islamic countries, to strengthen our role as a form of cooperation," he said.

"OKI must also reform itself, so that it is in accordance with its goals. Through periodic evaluation, simplification of organizational structure, and focus on concrete solutions," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
"To overcome this challenge, I invite all parties here to unite to advance the people and build a stronger and more united OIC," he concluded.
