JAKARTA - The Hezbollah group in Lebanon confirmed that they sided with Iran in the armed conflict against Israel.

In a statement on Telegram on Thursday (19/6), Hezbollah's Secretary-General, Naim Qassem, said his group supports Iran's legitimate rights and independence.

He considered the United States (US) with Israel, which he called a "cancer population", to commit lies and aggressive acts against Iran.

"We stand with Iran to face this global injustice, because we are also fighting for independence, our land acquisition, as well as the freedom to make our own decisions and choices," Qassem said as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, June 20.

He stressed that Hezbollah would act according to their judgment to avenge the "brutal" aggression of Israel and the US.

Tensions have risen in the Middle East since Friday (13/6), when Israel launched airstrikes on several locations in Iran, including military and nuclear facilities.

Israel reported 24 people were killed and hundreds injured in Iran's retaliatory attacks, while Iran said at least 639 people were killed and more than 1,300 others injured in Israeli attacks.
