JAKARTA - North Korea (North Korea) fired a number of artillery shells, a day after joint air exercises between South Korea (South Korea), the United States (US) and Japan.

The South Korean military said North Korea fired about 10 artillery shells from its rocket launch system on Thursday, a day after joint air exercises with the country with the US and Japan.

North Korea fired the bullets at the Yellow Sea at around 10:00 a.m. from the Sunan area near Pyongyang, the military said, quoted from The Korea Times June 19.

South Korean and US intelligence authorities are conducting an analysis of the latest test of the weapon, the military added.

North Korea's 240mm rocket launch put Seoul and the surrounding area within target range. Last year, North Korea conducted a test launch which was claimed to be a double rocket launcher equipped with a new guide system.

The weapons tests were carried out a day after South Korea, the US and Japan conducted three-way air exercises as part of efforts to strengthen trilateral security cooperation against North Korea's military threats.

The exercise, which was first carried out under the Lee Jae-myung administration, involved South Korea's F-15K fighter, the United States F-16 and Japan's F-2 fighter jets.
