Sunarto To The New Judge: Don't Look For Positions With Souvenirs, Learn, Upgrade Skills Keep Integrity

JAKARTA - Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (MA) Sunarto reminded the newly appointed judges not to seek positions by approaching or lobbying the leadership. He emphasized that the key to achieving positions in the judiciary is to increase their abilities and get closer to God.

"Don't knock on the leader's door, but knock on the door of the sky. It's easy now if you want to be an official. But once again I remind you, don't come often to knock on the door of the leader with souvenirs, what can you bring. The leader is more than enough," said Sunarto in his direction in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, July 13.

Sunarto made this statement when giving guidance to 1,451 judges who had just been confirmed by the Supreme Court. He emphasized that integrity, competence, and piety are the main assets in pursuing careers in the world of justice.

"The capital is to always improve intellectuality. There are opportunities to learn, learn. Then improve skills, maintain integrity. And most importantly, be close to those who have this life," said Sunarto.

He added, if God has wanted, then there is not a single force that can block someone's path. He claims that he has never lobbied the leadership in his career journey to reach the top position in the judiciary.

"Once again, there is no need to knock on the door of the leader. If God wants, he will be the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court," he said.

Previously, on Thursday (12/6/2025), the Supreme Court confirmed 1,451 candidates for judges to become permanent judges. The inauguration was carried out in front of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and a number of high-ranking state officials.

The new judges came from four judicial environments, namely General Courts, Religious Courts, Military Courts, and State Administrative Courts. Of the total confirmed judges, 40.7 percent were women.

This inauguration is an important moment after five years the government has not appointed a new judge. Finally, the recruitment of career judges will be carried out in 2020.

In the event, the President was accompanied by a number of state officials, including Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto.
