JAKARTA - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers through the Riau Islands Indonesian Migrant Workers Service and Protection Center (BP3MI) thwarted the departure of a woman with the initials WTA who is suspected of working non-procedurally in Singapore as a household assistant.
The postponement was carried out by the Riau Islands BP3MI Team at Helpdesk Harbour Bay Batam International Port, last Monday, July 2 when the WTA was about to board the MV Horizon 6 ship for Singapore.
Head of BP3MI Ripri Kombes Imam Riyadi said, WTA only has passports, In-Principle Approval (IPA), and boat tickets, without official documents as migrant workers.
"The WTA does not have complete documents to work abroad. It only carries passports, IPA, and tickets for the Singapore destination ship," said Imam in a written statement received in Jakarta, Friday, June 6.
The WTA is a resident of Blitar, East Java, who previously worked in Hong Kong and returned to trying to find work as a household assistant in Singapore.
According to Imam, the woman was promised a salary of 650 Singapore dollars (Approximately Rp. 8 million) per month, but had to be deducted for three months by the party suspected of being the broker.
In addition to thwarting the departure of the WTA, the team also detained a suspected broker with the initials L/N who is said to be taking care of the entire WTA departure process.
After the examination, the two were handed over to Sub-Directorate IV of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Riau Islands Police for further processing.
"We also provide initial guidance to WTA regarding the risks and dangers of non-procedural work abroad," concluded Imam.
Separately, the Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers, Abdul Kadir Karding, always reminded prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) to work abroad through official and procedural channels.
Minister Karding also appealed to CPMI to find out about job vacancies abroad through the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI).
