The FBI launched an investigation into an attack targeting pro-Israeli peaceful demonstrations that left six people injured in Boulder, Colorado, United States on Sunday.
The attack reportedly took place at the Boulder Run for Their Lives, the Anti-Defamation League said on social media. Weekly gatherings of Jewish community members are meant to support hostages held hostage during the October 7 attack on Israel in 2023.
"We are saddened and heartbroken to learn that an incendiary device was thrown at pedestrians at the Run for Their Lives parade on Pearl Street as they raise awareness of the hostages still being held in Gaza," the Boulder Jewish community said in a joint statement to CNN, as quoted June 2.
Authorities said six people were injured as a result of the attack. FBI special agent in charge of Denver Field Office Mark Michalek said the victim, aged between 67-88, was rushed to hospital.
"Based on this initial fact, it is clear that this is an act of targeted violence and the FBI is investigating this as an act of terrorism," he said.
Michalek named the suspect Mohamed Soliman, 45 years old. The solimon was hospitalized shortly after the attack, with Reuters unable to immediately find contact information for him or his family.
Meanwhile, FBI Director Kash Patel described the incident as a targeted terror attack, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said it appeared to be a "hateful crime given the group being targeted."
Separately, Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said he was not sure anyone else was involved.
"We are quite sure we have detained one suspect," he said.
