BANJARMASIN - The City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, highlighted the existence of chaotic network cables at various points and were considered to disturb the aesthetics of the city.

The Mayor of Banjarmasin, H Muhammad Yamin appealed to all service providers and owners of utility networks, such as power cables and telecommunications, to immediately arrange.

"I urge cable owners to tidy up the cables along the Banjarmasin City area," Yamin said in Banjarmasin, quoted from Antara, Sunday, June 1.

He emphasized that if this appeal is not heeded within the specified time limit, then his party will not hesitate to take firm action, including cutting cables that violate the rules.

Apart from cables, utility pillars are also a concern. Yamin hopes that all providers can unite their poles so they don't stand alone and damage the city's order.

"We hope the leaders can be just one point. All providers collaborate to tidy it up so that the city looks neater," he explained.

Yamin added that in the future Banjarmasin City is targeting to build a ducting system or underground cable channels, as implemented in other big cities.

"So that the city's aesthetics are maintained and there are no more cables hanging in the air," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Banjarmasin City Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR), Suri Sudarmadiyah, said that the construction of the ducting route was included in the long-term plan.

According to Suri, his party is currently conducting comprehensive data collection on all poles of the utility network spread across Banjarmasin, the city dubbed Kota Seribu Sungai.

For the newly installed utility network, Suri emphasized that all installations on land owned by the City Government must have an official permit, and will be subject to leases based on an assessment from the Public Appraisal Service Office (KJPP).

"As for the old cables that have been installed, we are still focusing on socializing service providers so that they immediately take care of permits and reorganize their installations," he said.

If after the socialization there is no follow-up, the local government will take action steps.
