JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Health Office recorded cases of tuberculosis (TB) in Jakarta reaching 21,667 in the period January to May 2025 or lower than the same period last year.

Acting (Plt) Head of Disease Prevention and Control, DKI Jakarta Health Office, Ovi Norfiana said, referring to data from the Tuberculosis Information System (SITB), the number of TB cases found in DKI Jakarta Province during the January to May 2024 period was recorded at 27,396 cases.

Meanwhile, in the same period in 2025 (up to May 23), the number of cases found was 21,667 cases.

"The difference in the number of cases between the two years reflects the dynamics in the implementation of the TB prevention program in Jakarta," said Ovi confirming Sunday, June 1.

Ovi said the increase in the number of cases found, as happened in 2024, did not mean that there was an absolute increase in transmission, but could be a positive indicator of the increasingly massive efforts to capture and find active cases in the community.

"The more cases detected early, the greater the chance to break the chain of transmission and achieve TB elimination," he said.

One of the efforts to increase TB's vigilance, he said, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government initiated the formation of the TB Alert Village. Currently, 274 TB Alert Villages have been formed.

The DKI Jakarta Health Office stated that this Alert Village is to increase public awareness and their involvement in countering tuberculosis.

"So 274 does not mean that the village with the most TB cases in Jakarta, but that is precisely the modeling of how TB can be started from the community involving all elements including community leaders and local officials as well as other than health elements," said Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Dwi Oktavia.

He hopes that the 274 TB Alert Villages can later be developed so that it can be replicated in all RWs in Jakarta to jointly tackle TB.
