Central Sulawesi Ministry of Law and Human Rights seeks to record Tanambi coffee from Touna in IG

PALU - Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Ministry of Law (Kemenkum) of Central Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi) seeks to record Tanambi coffee from Tojo Una-Una Regency in the intellectual property rights of geographical indications (IG).

"The more I can increase IG products in Central Sulawesi, the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights continues to strive to provide assistance in submitting IG products, one of which is Tanambi coffee from Tojo Una-Una Regency," said Head of the Central Sulawesi Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office Rakhmat Renaldy in his statement in Palu, Saturday.

Renaldy emphasized that IG is an important aspect in the world of intellectual property (KI) that involves the natural and cultural wealth of Indonesia, including in Central Sulawesi.

According to Renaldy, as an area with rich cultural diversity and natural resources, Central Sulawesi has many products that have special characteristics that can only be found in certain geographic areas.

For this reason, he continued, IG registration has an important role in protecting Indonesian products from counterfeiting and abuse, as well as increasing the selling value of products.

By registering the intellectual property rights of IG Tanambi coffee from Tojo Una-Una, he said, local governments can protect and increase the value of the coffee economy.

The Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Central Sulawesi said that his party had made a direct visit to the Tojo Una-Una Regency Agriculture Service to coordinate and communicate actively related to the application for IG Tanambi coffee.

"Currently, the request for geographical indications of Tanambi coffee is still in the process of proposing an application," he said.

He sees the need for further coordination in encouraging requests for geographical indications and equal perceptions of policymakers related to the importance of legal protection of geographical indications.

"This is very important because registration is an indication that geography provides many benefits, both for producers and consumers, namely protecting special products, increasing economic value, increasing competitiveness, and raising regional identity," he said.
