MOSCOW - The League of Arab Countries (LAS) completely rejected US President Donald Trump's proposal to convert the Gaza Strip into "Central East Riviera" by calling it ethnic cleansing of Palestinians who live there.

"The Arab league completely rejects Trump's plans. This is ethnic cleansing, and we will not allow it not only in neighboring Gaza Strip countries, which Trump calls recipients of Palestinians, but in any other country," LAS Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit told Spanish newspaper El Pais Thursday.

At the same time, Gheit warned against taking steps to cut ties with Israel, as well as suggesting dialogue remains the most effective approach.

"Dismissing diplomatic relations is not a wise policy in terms of negotiations with the parties ... Without diplomatic relations and communication, it is impossible to get anything from Israel," he said.

Earlier on February 5, 2025, Trump announced that the US would "take over" the Gaza Strip after the conflict ended and rebuild the Palestinian enclave into "Riviera in the Middle East".

Trump said the plan would require the relocation of Palestinians from Gaza to other countries, such as Jordan and Egypt.

Suddenly, the Palestinian Hamas movement denounced Trump's statement, dismissing the idea of expelling Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, and building US control over the densely populated enclave.

Israel's foreign affairs chief Gideon Saar, on the other hand, called Gaza a "failed experiment" in a parliamentary speech calling for considerations for Trump's proposed relocation.
