Pramono: Ondel-ondel Not Used To Mengamen

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that the ondel-ondel ban was used for busking activities on the streets. According to Pramono, the ondel-ondel that was used as a busking did not match the Betawi cultural value.

This was revealed by Pramono at the signing of the cooperation agreement on the preservation of Betawi culture.

"I really hope that ondel-ondel is a dynamic, non-static culture. But it must also be appreciated for adequate appreciation. I am one of those who then ordered that, sorry, ondel-ondel not be used to look for busking, lah," said Pramono at the Hotel Borobudur, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, May 28.

Pramono revealed that his staff would socialize the ban ondel-ondel busking on the road.

Instead, the DKI Provincial Government will cooperate with Betawi cultural studios to take advantage of the use of ondel-ondel in Jakarta to appear in various activities.

"That person doesn't sing if it's fulfilled and given the opportunity to be able to appear in other spaces. So, we'll make ondel-ondel later, we'll invite various events in the capital, a lot of events," explained Pramono.

On that occasion, Pramono said that the DKI Provincial Government was carrying out the mandate of Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning Special Regions in Jakarta. Where, the DKJ Provincial Government has special authority in the field of culture.

Referring to Article 31, the DKJ Provincial Government can budget for cultural endowment funds allocated from the APBD and can propose additional funds to the central government.

"In one of the articles mentioned, the main culture is Betawi culture. So, at that time the Betawi culture really had to be prepared, we operated well, and would truly become the main face of Jakarta internationally," Pramono explained.

One of the things that was done was a collaboration with 5-star hotels to highlight Betawi culture, such as displaying works to serving typical Jakarta foods.

"In particular, I ordered that this really be done and fostered, and so people from anywhere come to hotels. There are 10 5-star hotels, so the Betawi cultural color is very visible, even the food will become a typical Betawi food," he added.
