The West Java Regional Police arrested a former employee of the West Java Province National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) with the initials TY on suspicion of a cyber crime in the form of illegal access and the distribution of classified electronic documents belonging to the institution.

Head of Public Relations of the West Java Regional Police, Kombes Hendra Rochmawan, said the suspect was suspected of storing and distributing secret documents belonging to the West Java Baznas to outsiders without permission.

"This case emerged after the complainant received information that the suspect was suspected of without rights and against the law of accessing, moving, and distributing a number of confidential electronic documents belonging to the West Java Baznas," said Hendra in Bandung, Tuesday, May 27, as reported by ANTARA.

Hendra said the act was first detected on November 20, 2024, after the reporter on behalf of Achmad Ridwan received information from a witness named Mohamad Indra Hadi.

"The cooperation document between the West Java Baznas and STIKES Dharma Husada has been sent by the suspect to outsiders since February 16, 2023 and is known to have been transferred to the suspect's private laptop around August 2023," he said.

He revealed that the perpetrators were also suspected of distributing other important documents, including the accountability report of the Unexpected Expenditure Grant (BTT) for the 2020 West Java Provincial Budget to a number of agencies.

The documents, he said, were categorized as excluded information based on the Decree of the Chairman of the West Java Baznas Number 93 of 2022, which stated that the document was confidential and should not be disseminated.

According to Hendra, the mode used by TY is to take advantage of the Baznas work equipment before it is officially dismissed through the Termination of Work Relations Letter Number 025 of 2023 dated January 21, 2023.

"After no longer taking office, the suspect kept, moved, and disseminated data from institutional devices to personal devices, including using MacBook laptops and Epson printers," he said.

Hendra said the evidence that was secured were two laptops, cooperation printed documents, screenshots of conversations, and public complaint report documents related to the alleged corruption of Baznas grant funds worth Rp11.7 billion.

For his actions, TY was charged with Article 48 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 32 paragraph (1) and (2) of Law No. 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law no. 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions.

"West Java Police affirms its commitment to taking firm action against cybercriminals, especially regarding misuse of official data and information that is excluded from public or institutional property," he said.
