JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka conveyed four strategic directions to related ranks, including local governments, PT Pelindo, and technical ministries, in handling the scarcity of fuel oil (BBM) in Bengkulu.
This was conveyed by Gibran when he directly inspected the Port of Baai Island, PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) Bengkulu, Tuesday, May 27.
The review was carried out as a follow-up to reports on the scarcity of fuel experienced by the Bengkulu community and the breaking of the supply chain of basic commodities to Enggano Island.
The first directive, the Vice President emphasized that the government places this condition as a priority, and will handle it with measurable and serious steps.
As directed by President Prabowo Subianto, everything related to the interests of the people must be a priority.
Second, the Vice President asked PT Pelindo to immediately speed up the process of dredging the shipping lanes affected by sedimentation to ensure that logistics lines, especially the distribution of energy and basic commodities, can run smoothly again.
Third, while waiting for the dredging process to be completed, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), PT Pertamina, or the local government will ensure the smooth distribution of fuel through alternative routes, especially land.
Fourth, Gibran emphasized that he would directly monitor the progress of handling this matter, either through periodic reports from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Bengkulu Provincial Government, Pertamina, or Pelindo, to ensure that the entire process runs according to plan and is on target.
The Vice President also apologized to the people of Bengkulu for the inconvenience and disturbances caused by the disruption of logistics and energy distribution in the area.
This visit emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the smooth running of national logistics in line with President Prabowo's vision to build Indonesia from the outskirts and strengthen maritime sovereignty.

For information, the latest dredging will take place in 2022 and the silting that has occurred over the past more than two years has caused the depth of the groove to shrink drastically to only about 1.5 meters.
This condition is also exacerbated by natural factors and bad weather which makes sedimentation happen more quickly. This is what makes tankers and logistics no longer able to lean.
The effort that Pelindo has made to normalize the flow is to bring in a CSD Costa Fortuna 3 type druk ship which is currently at the Port of Baai Island, Bengkulu and will immediately dredge it.
