TNI Commander Immediately Revision Of SOP For Ammunition Destruction

TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto said his staff would immediately revise the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the destruction of fuel ammunition.

This was conveyed by Agus after a closed meeting with Commission I of the DPR to discuss a number of strategic issues, one of which was the issue of an ammunition explosion incident in Garut, West Java, which killed four TNI personnel and nine civilians.

"Indeed, this is an input for us, we will change the SOP later," Agus said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 26.

Agus said the revision was carried out for the safety of personnel and prevented a similar incident from happening in the future.

"So that the personnel who carry out the destruction can be safe. We will correct it inside, hopefully it won't happen," he said.

Agus also emphasized that the destruction of ammunition in Garut, West Java, was in accordance with the procedure.

"One of the things discussed earlier was the detonation in Garut, where I have conveyed that the procedures for the detonation have been carried out in accordance with the SOP," said Agus.

Agus explained that the process of destroying ammunition had gone through a number of stages and its implementation was reported from the ammunition user unit, Slog Kodam, Slog TNI to the Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan).

"Then when the procedure has arrived at the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Defense will go to the TNI Slog and reach the unit assigned to blow up the large and small caliber munitions and the explosive detonators will be detonated somewhere that has been prepared," he said.
