JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government opened the Blok M Hub area, South Jakarta, for 24 hours to welcome the 498th Anniversary of the City of Jakarta with the theme "Jakarta, Global and Cultural City".

"So for that, brothers and sisters, we really want to make this Blok M Hub a 24-hour hub," said DKI Governor Pramono Anung in the launching of Jakarta City's 498th Anniversary in Blok M South Jakarta, Saturday.

Pramono is optimistic that the Blok M area which will be revitalized will be able to become a transportation hub and public space with a number of facilities that have been prepared.

The revitalization of the Blok M area includes the construction of pedestrians or sidewalks along 1.3 kilometers (km) which are confirmed to be friendly for people with disabilities.

Then, it is also supported by the opening of the Martha Tiahahu Literacy Park 24 hours. It is hoped that other parks in Jakarta will also follow to open for 24 hours.

"And in the near future, hopefully next month or two months the Leuser, Ayodya, and Langsat Parks will begin construction to be unified," said Pram.

The three parks will be merged into parks with an area of 6.2 hectares (ha) and have a jogging track open 24 hours for Jakarta residents.

Furthermore, currently at Blok M Terminal there is also Transjabodetabek which is able to reach residents outside Jakarta and is free of charge for 15 groups.

The two new Transjabodetabek routes, namely Alam Sutera-Blok M and PIK-Blok M, now serve thousands of passengers every day.

"Including those who have now been released for Transjakarta. Those of us who have not been able to release are for KRL, LRT already, MRT already, JakLingko already, and this is something we have never imagined before," said Pram.

Blok M Hub will also be prepared as a center for public activities, including the development of culinary areas and ASEAN buildings which will be part of Jakarta's new face.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will revitalize the Blok M area and is targeted for completion in October 2025.
