Megathrust Earthquake Prediction, Prasetyo Hadi: Disaster Mitigation Our Homework Together

JAKARTA - Plt. Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati repeatedly warned against the prediction of a megathrust earthquake in several parts of Indonesia. The two areas that are recorded are the Sunda Strait Megathrust and the Mentawai-Siberut Megathrust.

This is because the two zones have not experienced earthquakes or seismic gaps for centuries. This is related to Indonesia's territory in the Pacific Ring of Fire which triggers vulnerability to earthquakes and tsunamis.

Responding to this, the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) who is also the spokesman for President Prabowo Subianto admitted that there was a need for good mitigation planning.

However, this cannot be done properly, if state revenues are still inadequate. Therefore, according to Prasetyo Hadi, the government is currently seeking maximum state revenue.
