JAKARTA - The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) sent a team and assistance to respond to the impact of natural disasters that rocked the southwestern region of Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province.

Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday, said that his party through the Directorate of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA) had coordinated emergency response measures with the Social Service and Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) at the district/city level to Bengkulu Province.

He conveyed empathy and commitment to ensure the presence of the country among residents affected by the earthquake.

"We responded quickly by deploying a team to help with evacuation, assessment, and ready to distribute aid. The Ministry of Social Affairs will continue to monitor developments and situations in the field," said Social Minister Saifullah.

Until now, he said the data collection process was still ongoing.

So far, his party noted that 34 houses were damaged in Bengkulu City due to an earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 6.3 on Friday morning.

The Tagana team has monitored and assisted residents at the scene, namely Bengkulu City, Seluma Regency, Central Bengkulu, and North Bengkulu.

He also appealed to the public to remain calm, but be aware of the potential for aftershocks.

He said he would continue to coordinate with BMKG, BNPB, and local governments so that steps to deal with the impact of disasters run quickly and precisely.
