'3 Tax Cars Don't Want To Pay But The Hardest Complain Roads Are Damaged,' Bengkulu Governor Insinuated

BENGKULU - Bengkulu Governor Helmi Hasan quipped the wealthy who were reluctant to pay or in arrears in vehicle taxes even though they had more than one car. This tax arrears were actually the most vocal when criticizing the damaged road conditions.

"Those who don't want to pay their car taxes are three units, and those who are the most critical when there are potholes, they also shout the most why the road is not smoothed. Pay taxes and don't want to, car 3 units, if there is a potholed road, talk to the government," he said in an official statement received in Bengkulu, Antara, Thursday, May 22.

Helmi made this statement as well as responding to the low awareness of some people in paying vehicle taxes, which is one of the sources of regional income for infrastructure improvement.

According to Helmi, the Bengkulu Provincial Government continues to strive to make the use of vehicle taxes on target. He emphasized that the taxes paid by residents will directly have an impact on development, especially road repairs.

"Please correct the Helmi-Mian if there is only one penny from the APBD, which comes from vehicle taxes, it is not used to repair roads. Please criticize us," he said.

However, Helmi also emphasized that the vehicle tax policy did not mean to burden the poor. He even opens up opportunities for vehicle tax exemption for people who really can't afford it.

"If someone is unable to pay taxes, make a certificate of not being able to afford it, send it to Helmi Hasan. You don't have to pay taxes for life, it's okay," he said.

He explained that the vehicle tax policy was a government product before his leadership. Even so, the Bengkulu Provincial Government is still looking for ways so that these rules do not burden residents whose economic conditions are difficult.

"The important thing is to prove, don't let those who feel like they can't afford it turn out to have three cars and still don't want to pay taxes," said Helmi.
