Preventing Potential Frictions, Central Jakarta Police Orders Illegal Ormas Flags

JAKARTA The Central Jakarta Metro Police continues to take preventive steps to maintain stability in public security and order, one of which is by controlling the attributes of community organizations (ormas) that are illegally installed in public spaces.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Pol Susatyo Purnomo Condro, emphasized that this step was taken to prevent the emergence of potential horizontal conflicts between community groups which are often triggered by symbols of power of certain mass organizations in certain areas.

"This control is part of our preventive efforts so that friction does not occur between groups. This is to keep Central Jakarta safe and conducive," said Susatyo in Jakarta, Tuesday (20/5).

The attributes of mass organizations that were brought under control this time were in the Sumur Batu Village area, Kemayoran District. A total of 14 flags from the two locations were successfully lowered without a fight. The decline was carried out persuasively, even a number of mass organizations members helped lower their flags after being given an understanding by officers.

Kemayoran Police Chief, Kompol Agung Adriansyah, added that the control was carried out based on DKI Jakarta Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 8 of 2007 concerning Public Order.

"Installation of symbols or attributes of mass organizations carelessly does not only violate the rules, but also has the potential to cause discomfort for other communities. We do not want this area to become a demonstration of the strength of certain groups," he said.

Agung emphasized that mass organizations that are too dominant in public spaces can create a sense of intimidation for residents and other groups, especially if these mass organizations have a track record of violence or intimidation.

This operation is part of Operation Eradication of Jaya 2025, which focuses not only on eradicating crime, but also on potential other social disturbances, including the influence of mass organizations acting outside the corridor of law.

"We will continue to patrol and control illegal attributes so that there is no gap for any group to show dominance in public spaces unilaterally," said Agung.

The police appealed to the public to report if they found the attributes of mass organizations that were installed carelessly, and invited all elements of society to maintain order and reject all forms of intimidation from any group.
