28 Thousand Accounts Involved In Online Judi Transactions Frozen

JAKARTA - The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) revealed tens of thousands of accounts resulting from the practice of buying and selling accounts used for online gambling deposits. In 2024, more than 28,000 accounts were recorded as means of these illegal transactions.

In addition to being used for online gambling, accounts belonging to other parties are also used massively to accommodate proceeds from criminal acts such as fraud, narcotics trafficking, and various other crimes.

PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana explained that one of the modes that are prone to misuse is the use of Dormant accounts, namely bank accounts that have been inactive for a long time with no transactions such as withdrawals, deposits, or transfers for a certain period of time.

"PPATK, in accordance with its authority based on Law Number 8 of 2010, has temporarily suspended customer transactions with accounts declared domestically based on banking data," said Ivan Yustiavandana in his official statement, Sunday, May 18.

Ivan said that this step aims to protect the public interest and maintain the integrity of the Indonesian financial system by preventing the misuse of domestic accounts by irresponsible parties.

Previously, a number of netizens complained about mass blocking bank accounts. One of them was experienced by the founder of Kaskus, Andrew Darwis.

Ivan added that customers affected by the temporary suspension still have full rights to their funds and can apply for account reactivation through the bank branch related to applicable procedures.

PPATK provides several steps that customers can take so that their accounts are not used as online gambling facilities. First, closing accounts that have been inactive for a long time.

Second, do not provide personal data to foreign parties. Third, report to the bank or law enforcement officials if receiving transfers from unknown accounts.
