Police Arrest Members Of Ormas Perpetrators Of Extortion, Ask For IDR 500 Thousand To Mandor Of The House Dismantling Project

JAKARTA - The Sub-Directorate of Crime and Violence (Jatanras) of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police revealed a case of extortion committed by a member of a Betawi mass organization in South Jakarta.

"The extortion suspect, namely the initials J, admitted that he had been a member of the FBR 153 Juragan branch, South Jakarta," said Head of Sub-Directorate for Jatanras, Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Abdul Rahim in Jakarta, Saturday.

During his time as a member of the FBR, suspect J made illegal levies (extortion) as a illegal parking attendant around the Permata Hijau area.

"He also often goes to the community hard and asks for security money. This is done by him with the aim of getting benefits for daily needs, one of which is buying drugs," he said.

Suspect J was arrested by the Jatanras Sub-Directorate on Tuesday (13/5) on Jalan Pulo Kenanga Raya RT 005/RW 015, North Grogol Village, Kebayoran Baru District, South Jakarta.

"During the arrest, suspect J was extorting the victim who was the foreman of the house demolition project," said Abdul.

Suspect J blackmailed the victim by taking the victim's cellphone, and also asked for security money of Rp. 500 thousand with threats. If the money is not given, it will forcibly stop the project being worked on by the victim.

"Because he was afraid, the victim was finally forced to give Rp200 thousand so that the victim could continue his work," he said.

Abdul also said that from the suspect's hands, evidence was secured, one of which was an organization shirt that was often used when carrying out the action.

"For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 368 of the Criminal Code concerning extortion with a maximum penalty of nine years in prison," said Abdul.
